GPX Files FAQ
What is a .gpx file?
GPX files store location points on a route. Without getting technical, they are a way to share GPS data between devices.
How to use a .gpx file?
The download drive files are compressed as a .zip file. Once you download the file, extract it onto your device (computer or phone) It will contain a .gpx file. You should now be able to open this gpx file with a map program, such as Google maps or Roads. Note that some download files will also include driving notes or other files.

- In the new window, select “Import” and upload your GPX file.

You can import gpx files to google maps, or, my favourite, Roads by Porsche (you don’t need a Porsche)
You can see more resources here
Can I create my own .gpx files?
You can manually make a route in a program like google maps, or , then export it (see detailed instructions here), or you can use an app on your phone to record a route, then share it below. Some of the programs you can use are listed here. My favourite is GPX tracker (IOS only)
You may want to edit the file to remove your home address. Once you are happy with the file, Compress it to a zip format and upload it using the form below. We will verify it, and load it to share on the drives page.
